AIMS provides medical assistance and case management services on behalf of insurance companies and assistance groups whose members require medical treatment in South Africa and across Sub-Saharan Africa. Their work focuses on managing complex medical events in unfamiliar and often high-risk environments, with an emphasis on patient safety, clinical appropriateness, and financial protection.

AIMS delivers a single, coordinated service covering the full medical journey while ensuring adherence to policy terms and insurer requirements.

How AIMS Supports Medical Incidents

When a medical incident is reported, AIMS takes over administrative coordination and guides the patient through the process from first contact.

Once medical authorisation is obtained, AIMS may issue a guarantee of payment to the treating facility. A clinical management plan is then proposed. Where treatment is outside South Africa, AIMS assesses the suitability of local care and determines whether transfer to South Africa or another appropriate facility is required, either by air ambulance or commercial flight.

If evacuation is required, AIMS provides ongoing case management, daily hospital visits where applicable, and direct communication with treating doctors. Updates are shared with authorised parties, including cost estimates, prognosis, treatment plans, and expected hospital duration.

Where treatment is provided locally, AIMS continues daily monitoring and engagement with the patient, family members, and employers, in line with patient privacy and data protection requirements.

As a South African-based organisation registered within the major hospital group systems, AIMS is able to facilitate preferential access to care and audit hospital accounts for ethical billing and over-servicing.

Medical Evacuations

When evacuation is required, AIMS assists by:

  • Ensuring all medical and aviation clearance requirements are met
  • Providing MD, RN, ECP, or ALS medical escort services
  • Activating evacuation missions when required
  • Providing real-time mission updates
  • Ensuring Department of Health and NICD compliance
  • Arranging appropriate receiving facilities

Areas of Operation

AIMS operates throughout South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Where no fixed presence exists, AIMS endeavours to assist patients wherever they are located, globally.

Terms of Service

AIMS endeavours to close consolidated accounts together with the final medical report within 14 days.

AIMS makes payment on behalf of clients. Standard payment terms are 21 days from receipt of original invoices.
